Here's something you might not know about me...

................

Hey, everyone - I'm Brandon Robbins, a pastor and YouTube creator. 

You might know me from some of my YouTube series like Beyond the Words, Misreading Scripture, or The Chosen Explained.

But here are some things you might not know about me...

  • I grew up in church (not a surprise, but you never know!)
  • I got my call to ministry by the time I was 16 and have pursued it ever since.
  • I graduated college with a Bachelor's degree in Religion.
  • I went to seminary at Duke University where I got my Masters of Divinity.
  • I have been ordained and currently serve as a pastor in the United Methodist Church.
  • I have a beautiful wife and two amazing daughters who I deeply cherish.

 

 

And here's something I'm certain you don't know about me...

I haven't always understood the Bible!

Perhaps it's strange to hear a pastor say that, or even someone who creates Bible study videos on YouTube.

But it's true!  Throughout much of my life, I have struggled to truly understand many of the scriptures I read. While some might have been clear and simple, others were simply confusing.

Have you ever had that experience?

Have you ever struggled to read the Bible? Or read a passage that just didn't make sense?

Have you ever thought to yourself: something must be missing! There must be some detail, some piece of information I don't have that will help all of this make sense!

Well, about 10 years ago, I discovered something that changed all of that.  I read a book called "Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus" by Lois Tverberg. It was a book that looked at Jesus from the perspective of a first century Jewish rabbi. As I was reading, I learned Hebrew idioms, rabbinical traditions, and geographic details that changed the way I saw so many scriptures.

But even more than that, this book opened my eyes to see that an understanding of the context of the Bible changes everything!

Since then, I have been filled with a passion to understand everything I can about the world, language, and culture of Jesus. I have read countless books and even toured the Holy Land to understand the Bible from this unique perspective.

It has changed the way I see...

I want to help you have the same experience!

I love to watch people grow in their relationship with Jesus.  And I believe that, just as these insights have helped me to understand scripture more clearly and see it with a new set of eyes, the same can happen for you!
